What is this study programme all about?

The aim of the Bachelor's degree programme in orthobionics is to give graduates the ability to provide independent patient care using modern orthoses and prostheses.

The study programme focuses primarily on:

  • practical and theoretical knowledge from the field of orthopaedic technology
  • medicine
  • biomechanics
  • engineering sciences
  • business administration

Students already become acquainted with practical work with patients starting in the first semester. At the same time, they also receive a good grounding in the academics involved and in finding solutions to the problems at hand. Based on this combination of practical application and science, graduates help to shape the future of patient care.

The scientific and practical knowledge of the students is consolidated during an internship semester as well as on the basis of work in various different projects.

Students learn to evaluate current research and development results for future professional practice and qualify to become sought-after specialists for the medical technology industry.

What can I do with it later?

Graduates will have access to the following professional fields of employment:

  • independent supply of patients with orthopaedic technical aids
  • product and project management in the industry
  • training specialist for patient fittings
  • collaboration in research and development
  • management responsibility in companies

With a Bachelor’s degree in orthobionics, graduates have access to various German and international Master’s degree programmes in the industry like Medical Technology and in the fields of biomechanics, neurotechnology, robotics and medical technology.

What makes this study programme special?

The programme is unique both in Germany and on an international level. Teaching takes place primarily in the specially equipped orthopaedic technical training workshop at Göttingen University Hospital, thus creating a direct link to patients and proximity to the clinical focus of technical orthopaedics.

All the teaching contents of the Master Craftsman's Certificate for Orthopaedics and Bandages are integrated into the course of study.

The study programme includes the development of such modern care concepts as neuroorthetics and neuroprosthetics.
Thanks to the students’ collaboration with other health professions and joint events at the Göttingen Health Campus, they are also well prepared to work as part of an interdisciplinary team.
