University Entrance Qualification

A German or international higher education entrance qualification according to § 18 Lower Saxony Higher Education Act.

If the entrance qualification was not acquired in German, you will need proof of your German language skills in addition to your entrance qualification (for more information, see "Submitting documents by mail").

Measles protection

Since courses are held at the University Medical Center Göttingen during your studies, proof of sufficient measles protection is required - in accordance with the German Infection Protection Act § 20 Absatz 9

Submit the proof (medical certificate) together with the application for enrolment.

Application via the HisinOne portal

Use our HAWK application portal "HisinOne" to apply online. The portal closes at 11:59 pm on the last day of the application period.

In the HisinOne portal you enter the data required for application and enrolment.

At the end of the online application, the PDF file "Application for Admission" is available in the HisinOne portal. Send this application together with the application documents requested there by post to HAWK.

Certificates must be submitted as certified copies!

Mandatory documents for all applicants

• Application for admission (application for a place at university), which is available in the HisinOne portal after the online application.
• Proof of higher education entrance qualification as a certified copy
• Curriculum vitae in tabular form with passport photograph
• Letter of motivation in German outlining the individual motivation for the Orthobionics degree programme. Approx. 1 DIN A4 page
• Return postage for possible dispatch of the letter of admission

Additional documents for entrance qualification

Translation of the entrance qualification: If the university entrance qualification was not acquired in German, please submit

• a certified copy of the original certificate
• and a sworn translation of the certificate in English or German

Proof of German language skills: If the higher education entrance qualification was not acquired in German, submit one of the following German certificates:

• TestDaF of the TestDaF Institute Level 4
• DSH level 2
• Goethe Certificate C2
• telc German C1 University
• DSD (German Language Diploma of the Standing Conference of the Ministers of Education and Cultural Affairs of the Länder in the Federal Republic of Germany) 2nd level

Additional documents in individual cases

• Exmatriculation certificate (if you have already studied)
• Proof of vocational training or practical, extracurricular experience in the broadest professional field (if available)
• Certificate of military service, civilian service or voluntary service (if available)
• Written statement of motivation to study, maximum 1 page (for second degree applicants)
• Copy of passport and residence permit (if you do not have German citizenship. The copies do not have to be certified)
• Written statement of your motivation to study, maximum 1 page (for second degree applicants).

Application for higher semesters

Certificates of achievement for placement

All applicants who meet the entry requirements will be invited to a selection interview.

• Time: 29 July to 2 August 2024
• Duration: 45 minutes
• Place: Göttingen

The selection interview takes place as an individual interview on the basis of the letter of motivation.

Assessment criteria

The interview will be assessed on the basis of the criteria listed below. Each criterion is awarded 0 to 10 points.

• Special interest in the direction of the study programme
• Relation to the field of technical orthopaedics
• Assessment of practical skills (craftsmanship)
• Presentation of empathy and social competence; social commitment
• Presentation of the ability to work in groups
• Understanding of the natural sciences in connection with the course of study
• Presentation of professional activity after graduation

The Orthobionics degree programme is admission-restricted. This means that if there are more applicants than places, the decision is made according to the selection limits.

An overview of the selection limits (in German) shows which values were sufficient in the past application procedures.

Determining the selection threshold

The various performances of the applicants are awarded with points. A ranking list is drawn up on the basis of the total points. In the event of a tie, the decision will be made by drawing lots.

The following performances will be evaluated. A maximum of 170 points can be achieved.

Notification of results

Applicants who are admitted receive a written notification of admission.

With your enrolment, you are accepting the place of study. To do this, proceed as follows:

1. Receipt of the notification of admission

Applicants with a valid application will receive a letter of admission by mail. The admission letter contains the procedure and 2 deadlines for enrolment.

2. Apply for online enrolment

If you would like to accept the place, apply for enrolment online in the HisinOne portal after you have received the notification of admission - within the 1st deadline in the notification of admission.

3. Apply for enrolment

After completing the online enrolment, the PDF "Antrag auf Immatrikulation" (application for enrolment) is available in the portal. Sign this application and send it to HAWK by mail together with the documents listed in the application - within the 2nd deadline in the notification of admission.
