• The administrative semester begins on April 1.
• Lectures start on the 3rd Monday of the month at the latest.

   Selection interviews
   The exact date will be communicated with the invitation to the selection interview.

• The administrative semester begins on October 1.
• Lectures start on the 3rd Monday of the month at the latest.

Prospective students have to enter the data required for the application via the HAWK application portal (online application).

The application portal is activated approximately six weeks before the application deadline.

Please enclose the following documents with your application - in the case of certificates and other evidence, certified copies:

• Letter of application (generated in the application portal)
• Proof of university entrance qualification
• Curriculum vitae (tabular) with passport photo, return postage
• Certificate of first university degree (if applicable, provisional certificate with average grade and credit points achieved)
• Certificate of de-registration
• If applicable, proof of practical professional activities with design relevance after the Bachelor degree
• If applicable, proof of a recognised German language examination

For applications for higher semesters, the performance certificates are additionally required for placement.

Second degree applicants are also required to submit a written statement of their motivation to study (max. one page).

The selection interview lasts a maximum of 20 minutes. During this time, the personal motivation for the application and one's own goals for the Master's programme Design should be explained. In addition, the selection committee may ask you questions. Please bring your portfolio or own design work with you.

The following three parameters will be assessed at the selection interview with up to a maximum of 20 points:

• Motivation/professional objectives
• Ability to reflect the design in a complex way
• Competence in design methodology and conception

Points are awarded for the selection interview, practical professional activities with design relevance after the Bachelor's degree and the final or average grade of the Bachelor's programme. A ranking list is formed from the total points determined. In the event of equality of rank, the decision shall be made by drawing lots.

A maximum of 160 points can be achieved. The following points scheme shall apply for the allocation of the points:

• Final/average grade: max. 90 points
• Selection interview: max. 60 points
• Practical work experience with a design element after Bachelor's degree: max. 10 points

Applicants who can be admitted will receive a written notification of admission.

For applications from abroad, the German language examination for university entrance (DSH) or a comparable qualification is required as proof of proficiency in the German language.

Proof that you have successfully passed a recognised German language examination is required.

The following certificates will be accepted:

• TestDaF from the TestDaF Institute Level 4
• DSH Level 2
• Goethe Certificate C2
• telc Deutsch C1 for University
• DSD (German Language Diploma of the Standing Conference of the Ministers of Education and Cultural Affairs of the Länder in the Federal Republic of Germany) Level 2
