Library Use – FAQ
If you have not registered with the library yet, please fill out the online registration form. Your library account will be activated on-site (during service hours). Please bring your student ID card or personal identification card with you.
For HAWK students and staff, the student or university ID also serves as the library card (external users pay a one-time fee of 5 euros). Minors must submit a parental consent form.
Books that you can borrow immediately are located in the open-stack section. The following items are not available for loan:
• Reference materials
• Course reserves
• Current issues of journals
• Loose-leaf publications
During service hours, you can borrow materials and books in person at the service desk or using the self-checkout machines. Outside of service hours, you can borrow items exclusively via our self-checkout machines.
• Loan period for books: 28 days
• Loan period for DVDs, CD-ROMs: 28 days
Reference copies may be borrowed overnight or over the weekend (depending on the location). Journal issues and loose-leaf collections are not available for loan.
If all of the copies of a book you need are already checked out, you can place a reservation for the book. This will prevent the current borrower from further renewals. You will be contacted via email when the book is ready for you to borrow.
You can renew borrowed items up to five times on your own via your online user account, provided they are not on hold (reference copies can only be borrowed overnight and cannot be renewed).
Login information for your user account:
• User number (located on the back of your student ID card, begins with 309...)
• Password (your 8-digit date of birth: DDMMYYYY)
If you have already exceeded the loan period, please contact the respective library via email to request a renewal.
