Digital Support for Students
HAWK offers a variety of digital media to enable flexible and modern studies. The learning management system Stud.IP is the central tool for the digital support of learning activities. Pure online degree programs are the exception.
In-person classes are the focus of our university life, because we value a vibrant campus where students and instructors can meet in person, exchange ideas, and engage in professional discourse. However, the courses are enriched by various media-based components and teaching methods. The percentage and methods used vary depending on the faculty, degree program, and the individual instructors.
Live online sessions, blended learning, and hybrid teaching are formats that are used as needed.
Digital Services at a Glance
Stud.IP is the learning management system that supports HAWK students from the start of their studies to graduation. In Stud.IP, you will find all courses offered at the three HAWK locations. Here, students register for courses, communicate with instructors and fellow students, find learning materials, and can set up and organize their own study groups. This allows a wide range of digital functions to be used for their own collaborative learning and work purposes.
There is no dedicated app for Stud.IP. However, its responsive design ensures the interface adapts to any mobile device, allowing for seamless use without an app.
We are continuously working to further improve the quality of studies and teaching. At the end of each semester, students can evaluate each of their courses online, in writing, and anonymously. A feedback discussion between instructors and students in one of the last sessions clarifies any remaining questions or concerns.
The course evaluation takes place in Stud.IP and is automatically activated at a certain point in the semester.
Information on possible exam formats and assessments can be found in the applicable regulations provided by the HAWK. These regulations govern whether examinations can be conducted electronically or even electronically as remote exams.
Therefore, if special circumstances arise that justify a remote exam, an examination can generally be conducted as an electronic remote exam. If the implementation of an electronic exam is being considered, students will receive information about this from their instructors.
Generative AI (Artificial Intelligence) can provide learners with individual and customized learning content, helping them to address specific topics more intensively. AI can also assist in tracking learning progress and providing real-time feedback.
However, generative AI cannot replace the personal exchange of thoughts, opinions, and experiences. The social and communicative skills developed in a learning community are of great importance for understanding and applying knowledge.
If you would like to try out the generative AI application GPT yourself, HAWKI is available to you. In addition to a chat area similar to ChatGPT, HAWKI offers the opportunity to have conversations with fictional experts. There are also learning spaces to understand the various support options and to learn what makes an effective prompt.
When using generative AI in academic writing, you are obligated to declare its use.
HAWK encourages the use of Open Educational Resources (OER). Stud.IP provides access to free and open educational resources, enabling flexible and collaborative learning and work.
HAWK provides a wide range of modern software and platforms for studying. Students are offered various tools for organizing their own learning acitivities as well as collaborative learning. With your HAWK login credentials you can access the following platforms:

In some courses and degree programs, the learning management system Moodle (https://moodle.hawk.de) is also used. If the use of additional software (e.g., CAD) is expected, students will receive information about this from their instructors.
If you are working on a video project or conducting an interview as part of your studies and you do not have the necessary equipment, please contact the Service Center for Teaching and Learning (Tel. 05121/881-540). We can help you with advice and the loan of technical equipment.
The following equipment is recommended for participating in online events and remote exams:

- Stable and relatively strong internet connection
- Camera and headset (microphone and speakers),
- If applicable, specialized software (e.g., CAD),
