Materials and Applications in the 1. Semester of the BA in Product Design
How do I move from a flat surface into a three-dimensional space? How do I navigate around corners? How do I join two surfaces together seamlessly? The course “Materials and Applications,” taught in the first semester of the Product Design program under the direction of Associate Professor Hanna Wiesener, marks the beginning of the Product Design program and introduces students to fundamental questions in this field.
In 3 sequential stages, the interplay between geometry and various surface materials was explored, and experiments were conducted using a laser cutter as the primary tool. The connection principles developed in each stage gave rise to light objects. Their aesthetic impact also stems from the interplay between the replicated individual parts and light, shadow, and materiality.
