“The laser is the precision tool of the present and the future; plasma is regarded as a key technology and will have great relevance for everyday life.”
Prof. Dr. rer. nat. habil. Wolfgang Viöl

What is this study programme all about?

Of course, it's all about laser and plasma technology. But what is behind it all?
In one of the two areas of specialisation, laser technology, everything revolves around

  • Laser technology
  • laser measurement technology
  • Optics design
  • Production technology

The other area of specialisation, Plasma Technology, investigates the technical application of plasmas and develops new plasma-assisted technologies. The focus here is on

  • Plasmas in production
  • Laser and plasma interaction

What can I do with it later?

As an engineer, you will be in great demand on the job market after completing your studies. It is the interdisciplinary way of thinking and working that you learn with us that gives you an advantage over other applicants.

You can start your career in laser and medical technology, mechanical and plant engineering, communication technology or measurement technology. But the optical industry or aviation are also part of the traditional branches of this professional field.

After graduation, you will be able to manage employees and larger units in these and other industries.

What makes this study programme special?

The Laser and Plasma Technology study programme will teach you everything you need to know about a technology that will be even more important in the future than it is today. Optical technology is the technology of the future in information, communication and semiconductor technology.

And yet there are only a few centres in the world dedicated to engineering programmes in this field. We are one of them.
