What is this study programme all about?

This dual study programme focuses on the diversity of the forest ecosystem as well as on the specific needs of the training company and aims to make you an expert in this field.

During the course of seven semesters, you will acquire knowledge in the following areas, among others:

  • Forest management
  • Timber harvesting and logistics
  • Forest planning, silviculture, forest growth science
  • Soil and climate science
  • Forest operations management and timber marketing
  • Forest and society

Throughout your studies, you will be an employee of a forestry training company and will complete the academic part of your studies together with the students in the Bachelor's programme in Forestry. Due to the higher number of practical phases, you will acquire all the know-how you need that is specific to your company and will be immediately ready to work after completing your Bachelor's degree.

What can I do with it later?

The career prospects for forestry students are generally considered as excellent for the next ten years. There is a considerable need for personnel in the state enterprises, in the federal forests as well as in the private and municipal forests. Through intensive contact with your individual training company, you also have the opportunity to find the exact field of work that best suits your needs.

After completing their studies, our graduates always work in professions that combine nature and office. Many take over the management of a forest district. The management of wood processing companies, the management of a forestry company or the cooperation in these specialist areas are also possible occupational fields for the future. In addition, there is the opportunity to work as a manager in forest and environmental education centres or as an expert in the fields of nature conservation and landscape management.

What makes the study programme special?

  • Thanks to the many practical phases in your training company, you will be optimally prepared for the processes and work areas there.
  • You usually receive a salary of between 800 and 1200 euros gross from your training company and you are entitled to statutory holiday time. Depending on the contract, you might have to commit to staying with the company for a certain period after completing your Bachelor's degree.
  • The dual Bachelor's programme in Forestry is based on a special time model: During the lecture-free periods, you complete your practical phases in the training company. In addition, there are two practical phases of three months each towards the end of your studies.
  • You study in small semester groups, take part in exciting excursions and combine theory and practice in project work.
  • You benefit from our applied research and the many contacts to professional forestry partners. In addition, during your studies you will have the opportunity to acquire the nationally recognized Forest Teaching Certificate, thus making environmental education one of your future career prospects.
