What is this study programme all about?

The study program is designed for people with practical experience in education, social services, and health care who want to develop personally and professionally without taking a break from their careers.

The course of study covers the broad fields of action in social work. In 8 semesters, you will learn about theories and methods of social work, how to apply them in professional practice, and how to critically examine them.

Main areas of focus in the study programme

  • Reflection on professional practice
  • Innovations in fields of action in social work
  • General qualifications to be able to work in various fields of action
  • Further development of social work concepts

Intensive training in methodological skills of communication and counseling
You also have the option of choosing further focal points in the action forms of Methods of Individual Case Assistance and Social Group Work as well as Media Pedagogy and Social Space Orientation.

Bringing your profession into your studies

The part-time and practice-oriented study model enables you to immediately put what you have learned into practice on the job. Supported and supervised by the university, you create module-by-module training plans and thus acquire social work expertise for your professional practice.

Parts of your professional activity will be counted as credits.

If the practice from which you come meets the requirements of the corresponding ordinance of the state of Lower Saxony, you will receive state recognition as a social worker upon graduation.

In addition to your studies, we recommend that you do not work more than 20 hours per week.

What can I do with it later?

You can advance professionally, develop the profession and develop your own skills. All the fields of social work at independent and public institutions are open to you.

In addition, you can use your Bachelor's degree to pursue an advanced Master's degree.

What makes this study programme special?

In the part-time social work programme, you work in small groups, which helps you to build a relationship of trust between you and other students. In a working atmosphere like this, mutual support comes easily and produces great results.

The teachers at HAWK closely supervise the learning process and can be contacted at any time during their regular office hours as well as during the courses.

To reflect the "social blended learning” model, they combine presence on site on Fridays and Saturdays, presence for online teaching on one evening per week, and self-organized study at times that suit you. Blended learning makes it possible to achieve a good balance between studies, family and career.
