HAWK lecturers and students on the move in an environmentally-friendly way

The HAWK Faculty of Resource Management in Göttingen has recently added a new electric cargo bike and trailer to its vehicle fleet. It allows Prof.Steffen Rust to get to excursion destinations that aren’t far from town in an environmentally-friendly way: "I often take students to the local forest or to the Schillerwiesen park where I instruct them on performing tree examinations. The bike lets me transport all my equipment easily and in a CO2-neutral way". Previously, he used a staff car to transport the teaching material. And many of his students arrived by car as well.

In the meantime, the e-bike, which is funded by the German Federal Ministry for the Environment, has prompted some HAWK students to follow the positive example he sets. "Sometimes the whole seminar group rides up together to a scheduled excursion by bicycle; I think that's great," he reports. The idea that students and faculty alike should work together to create a more environmentally- friendly campus is already off to a good start  now that they’ve put the first few pedaled kilometers behind them.
