Full-time, dual, practice-integrated, part-time and work-based studies
Full-time studies
Teaching takes place full-time and on campus throughout the semester. Each week, you spend around 40 hours attending lectures and seminars, preparing and reviewing course content, taking examinations, writing assignments and completing internships. In many degree programmes, extended practical phases are planned, some of which can also be completed abroad.
In individual cases, a temporary part-time mode of study may be possible on application (see below).
- ECTS per semester: 30
- Standard period of study: bachelor's degree = 6-7 semesters, master's degree = 3-4 semesters (depending on the programme)
- Place of study: on campus
Part-time studies
There are dedicated part-time degree programmes in which the curriculum is designed from the outset for fewer than 30 ECTS credits per semester, for example programmes studied alongside employment.
Temporary part-time studies
Wenn Sie in einem Vollzeitstudiengang eingeschrieben sind und nur temporär in Teilzeit studieren möchten, können Sie einen Antrag stellen. Die Regelstudienzeit verlängert sich für je 2 Teilzeitsemester um 1 Vollzeitsemester und sie dürfen maximal 50 % der vorgesehenen Leistungen pro Semester absolvieren. BAföG funding and part-time study
In the case of part-time study, please contact the relevant Studierendenwerk to find out whether your studies are eligible for BAföG funding.
Dual studies
In a dual study programme, you are both enrolled at HAWK and employed by a company that provides your practical training. In some dual programmes, you can complete a vocational qualification in addition to your academic degree.
The curriculum in a dual study programme is characterised by a very close integration and direct interaction between the academic content and your tasks in the company, which distinguishes it from the so-called practice-integrated study model.

- Standard period of study: bachelor’s degree = 7-8 Semester (depending on the programme)
- Place of study: on campus and in the company
Integrated study and traineeship
You are enrolled at HAWK and also have an employment contract with a company where you complete extended practical phases alongside your studies.These practical phases take place either in parallel throughout the semester and/or as a block during the lecture-free period.
The study content and your work activities complement each other; however, unlike in so-called dual study programmes, they are not systematically aligned with each other in terms of specific themes.

Work-based studies
The part-time programmes for working professionals at HAWK use a range of teaching formats: online teaching (both live and recorded), on-campus sessions spread throughout the semester, or blended learning, i.e. online teaching during the week combined with on-campus block sessions on certain weekends.
Part-time programmes alongside employment can in some cases also be studied without being in employment.

- Standard period of study: bachelor 's degree = 8-9 semesters, master's degree = 5-6 semesters (depending on the programme)
- Place of Study: blended learning and on-campus
