Prof. Dr. Uwe Schwarze

What is this study programme all about?

Everything in this study programme revolves around the more in-depth examination of concepts and theories of social work. We want to train our students in the research, analysis and evaluation of social work and in doing so sharpen their sense for the critical reflection of professional practice and their own experiences in this field. This Master's programme is based on the international state of research and theory development. The focus is on inclusion, diversity and culture. The programme includes, among other things, the possibility of country-specific studies, stays abroad as well as such contents as steering and teaching in social work.

What can I do with it later?

Once you have completed your Master's in Social Work, you will be ready to take on leadership roles in such areas as planning, concept development, counselling, education and training as well as in teaching, research and evaluation. Especially important for many of our students: This degree entitles you to a position in the higher civil service. Furthermore, you have the opportunity to stay in research in order to pursue a doctorate.

What makes this study programme special?

First of all, our clear profile, which is based on four pillars: Internationality, interculturality, diversity and inclusion. This is the basis on which we have developed a generalist, open-theme study programme that is seldom offered elsewhere in Germany. We attach great importance to small study groups of around 24 people in order to provide counselling and coaching geared to the strengths of the students. This support is based on a broad range of courses, including the possibility of doing “field studies”, and on our support of the students, when it comes to a semester abroad, for example. The large number of English-language courses on offer means that you are well prepared for this right from the start.
