The admission procedure for the Master's programme in Design is carried out every semester. We recommend that you take part in counselling interviews at the faculty in advance. The successful completion of a subject-specific, previous study programme (Bachelor's or equivalent) is one of the admission requirements.

Make sure that you submit your application to take the test to prove special artistic aptitude before the deadline.

Please send your documents to the Examination Office of the Faculty of Design.
Once all the documents are complete and correct, we will send you a homework assignment and an invitation to a personal interview.
The personal interview with the Aptitude Commission lasts about 20 minutes. During this time, you should present your own work, present your personal motivation and your goals in the Master's programme and present the results of your homework assignment.
In addition, the Aptitude Commission can ask you questions.
The following three parameters are assessed with 0-3 points each during the aptitude interview:
You will be informed in writing about the number of points you have achieved at the latest 14 days after completion of the aptitude interview.
These test results are valid for 3 years.
The data required for the application must be entered by the applicants on the HAWK application portal (online application).
The application portal will be activated approximately six weeks before the end of the application period.

In the case of applications for higher semesters, proof of academic achievement is also required for the placement process.
Students applying for a second degree must also provide a written statement of their motivation to study (max. one page).
For applications from abroad, the German language examination for university entrance (DSH) or a comparable qualification is required as proof of proficiency in the German language.
Proof that you have successfully passed a recognised German language examination is required.
