Application

All applicants must provide proof of their special artistic ability.

The so-called "Feststellungsverfahren zum Nachweis einer besonderen künstlerischen Befähigung" is carried out each semester in a two-stage procedure.

In principle, we recommend all prospective students to take part in our study and portfolio consultations at an early stage.

It makes sense to bring as many previous works as possible to this date - only then can we advise you individually. Please download the schedule for the folder consultation.

Procedure to determine special artistic qualification, 1st part (pre-selection)

• Digital application for participation in the procedure to determine special artistic qualification
• Upload 7 - 10 artistic work samples (1st part of the examination/pre-selection). You can change / update your data at any time until 30th October 2023.
• Please use the following HAWK platform: https://mappe.hawk.de.

Until 10th November 2023

• Review of your uploaded work samples by the assessment commission.
• Sending out the results of the pre-selection examination (1st part of the examination).
• Sending out the invitations to the 2nd part of the pre-selection examination at the HAWK Campus.

Procedure to determine special artistic qualification, 2nd part (practical examination at HAWK Campus in Hildesheim)

• The practical examination consists of two design tasks with a processing time of approx. two and a half hours each.
• In a 10-minute interview we want to get to know you and your ambitions.
• Please bring your portfolio (15-20 artistic work samples) with you. It will be considered during the interview. Your portfolio may also include the work you have already submitted digitally. You can take your portfolio home again on the same day.

Until 12th December 2023

• The proof of special artistic ability / points certificate will be sent out to you.

Until 15th January 2024

• Online application for a study place: The portal will be closed at 23:59 on the last day of the application period. Enrolment takes place according to the notification of admission.

The administrative semester begins on 1st April.
Lectures begin no later than the 3rd Monday of the month.

You must include the following documents with your application. Certified copies are required for transcripts and other official documents:

• Covering letter (will be generated on the application portal)
• Proof of higher education entrance qualification
• Curriculum vitae (in table format) with passport photograph, return postage
• Proof of special artistic ability
• Certificate of de-registration (if applicable)
• Certificate of military, alternative or voluntary service (if applicable)
• Proof of recognised German language examination (if applicable)

In the case of applications for higher semesters, proof of academic achievement is also required for the placement process.

Students applying for a second degree must also provide a written statement of their motivation to study (max. one page).

The data required for the application must be entered by the applicants on the HAWK application portal (online application).

The application portal will be activated no later than six weeks before the end of the application period.

For applications from abroad, the German language examination for university entrance (DSH) or a comparable qualification is required as proof of proficiency in the German language.

Proof that you have successfully passed a recognised German language examination is required.

The following certificates will be accepted:

• TestDaF from the TestDaF Institute Level 3
• DSH Level 1
• Goethe Certificate C2
• telc Deutsch C1 for University
• DSD (German Language Diploma of the Standing Conference of the Ministers of Education and Cultural Affairs of the Länder in the Federal Republic of Germany) Level 2
