Living and studying in Hildesheim
As a university city with around 100,000 inhabitants, Hildesheim has a lot to offer. There’s something to discover here all year round: from the city beach in summer to curling in winter, from the student cultural project, which you help to shape yourself, to the large theatre stage. Or you can enjoy the flair of the old town in one of the many cafés.
The city in Lower Saxony looks back on a long history. Hildesheim was already known as a bishopric and junction of trade routes in the Middle Ages. St. Mary’s Romanesque cathedral and St. Michael’s monastery basilica are now UNESCO World Heritage Sites.
The city itself is fully geared towards students. The housing market is relaxed compared to other larger cities and distances are short. If you want to volunteer or work alongside your studies, there are many different ways in which you can do this.
Hildesheim is the HAWK’s largest location. Taken together, the three faculties of Architecture, Engineering and Conservation, Design and Social Work and Health have about 3,200 students. The central facilities and administration also have their headquarters here.
